Gen.G Duro | "Keria - Delight and..." The reason why Gen.G chose Duro is?

2024 LCK Post Stove League Interview with Duro -  new Support for Gen.G

Translation of the interview uploaded on Dec-11-2024 by e-focus esports | 2024 LCK Off Season

Q: During the Stove League you came out as a surprise recruit for Gen.G. Please tell us how you feel?

I said this at the showcase as well but I had never dreamt of being able to join Gen.G. Now that I have joined Gen.G, I will work hard for it.

Q: There was some talk that the competition for recruitment would be intense. I understand that you received offers from many teams. Could you share the reason for choosing Gen.G?
I wanted to make sure I played in the first string team. There seemed to be many options for 2025, but I wanted to achieve good results and join a strong team. That's why I chose Gen.G.

Q: What do you think made Gen.G choose you?
Since mid-summer when I was called up (to first string), I feel like I’ve stirred things up a bit, like a sandstorm. My bold initiation skills seemed to stand out. While others may not have seen it, I think during off-the-record moments, my leadership and decision-making were received in a positive light, leading to their decision to recruit me.

Q: You recently joined Gen.G and participated in the KeSPA Cup. Despite being a new addition, you showed exceptional synergy on the team. How was the experience?
For a first match with new teammates, I don’t think the performance was bad at all.

Q: As the next official tournament begins, you will be teaming up with Ruler, who is known as one of the world’s best ADCs. How do you feel

I’ve always wanted to play alongside a veteran like him. When Ruler played for Gen.G before going to China, he performed incredibly well, and I became a fan. Because of this, this opportunity feels twice as rewarding.

Is there any pressure working with such a high-profile player?
Not at all.

What’s your impression of Ruler now that you’ve met him?
He’s such a cheerful person.

Have you gotten close to him?
Yes, I feel closer than I did on the first day.

Q: During the official showcase, you appeared particularly a bit nervous, which is unusual for you. What made you feel that way?
I don’t usually get nervous, but standing next to such amazing players in a “super team” like Gen.G made me feel tense.

Q: Have the existing players been supportive of you?
Yes, they’ve been very kind and helpful, making my adjustment much easier.

Has anyone, in particular, helped you adapt?
Honestly, everyone has been great, so it’s hard to single anyone out.

Q: At your previous team, you were known for giving constructive criticisms during practices, like reminding teammates about turning up on time or in-game calls. At Gen.G you're the youngest. Do you plan to maintain similar disposition at Gen.G?
It would be nice to be straightforward but I also have my shortfalls so I think I will need to be careful about it (interviewer chuckles).

Q: Hena, your former teammate that you had paired with, once mentioned in an interview that your solid mentality is something others should learn from. Do you agree?
Yes, I think I’ve always had a strong mentality. If I get stressed, I usually listen to music to manage it.

Could you recommend a song to your fans?
I mostly listen to pop songs, so it’s hard to pick just one.

Q: You’ve showcased versatility as a support, excelling with engage champions, enchanters, and tanks. What are your goals for the 2024 summer season?
There were some games I could have won but didn’t, which is disappointing. Still, I think I showed a lot of my potential, so I feel okay about it.

Q: You debuted in the first team this year and gained experience in Worlds Championship qualification matches. What did you gain from these experiences?
I think I’ve built up experience playing on the first team.

Q: In your opinion, what qualities make a great Support player?
That depends on the person, so it’s hard to say definitively.

Q: Next year, there will be changes in the LCK, including the introduction of the Fearless system and the LCK Cup. What’s your perspective on these changes?
I’ve already experienced the Fearless system while playing in Challengers Korea, so I’m not too worried about it. However, I find the new changes to be a bit confusing.

Q: What do you think about the updated patch with changes to objectives and teamfights?
Frequent teamfights can be fun but may also make the game messier. I think we need to approach this cautiously.

Q: Are you managing your physical wellbeing for the upcoming demanding schedule?
I’m not sure yet since I haven’t fully experienced a first-team schedule, but I felt fine this year.

Q: At the showcase, you confidently said that it's just you (Duro) who need to play well (to match the rest of the team) to win the championship with no problem. What are your goals and aspirations with Gen.G in 2025?

The goal is definitely to take titles. As for my aspirations, as I said during the showcase, if I keep improving, I believe we can win because my teammates are already so skilled.

Q: What do you personally hope to achieve as Gen.G’s Duro?
I hope to lift a championship trophy at least once.

Q: Lastly, do you have a message for your fans?
Some fans may have concerns, but I’ll turn those concerns into confidence. Please keep an eye out for me!

Q: How would you like to be remembered as a player?
I want to become as great players like Keria and Delight, so that when people talk about outstanding Supports, they mention Keria, Delight, and Duro in the same sentence.

Q: Thank you for the interview. We look forward to seeing your continued success!
Thank you.
